Texas has been a state for more than 160 years, but it's still a pretty wild place. The capital of Texas is Austin, but Texas’s largest city is Houston.

Texas is a big state with a lot of cities and many distinct regions. Each one has its very own charm and interesting places to see.

Some of Texas’s most popular cities are: San Antonio, Austin, Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Galveston, South Padre Island, Corpus Christi, Fredericksburg and El Paso.

Corpus Christi is located in the heart of the Texas Gulf Coast. Here, you will able to visit places like the Texas State Aquarium.  This is a great place to visit with the whole family. Once you are there you will be amazed by the aquatic life of the Texas Gulf Coast.

In Texas you will find the following regions: Big Bend Country, Hill Country, The Gulf Coast, Panhadle Plains, Piney Woods, Prairies and Lakes, South Texas Plains.

On Mustang Island you will not only find some of the greatest beaches in Texas, but the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. This is a great location where bird and nature lover can have some of the best bird watching that there is.

 If you like golfing, Texas is the right place for you! Texas has some great golf courses where a gold lover will feel right at home. There are more than 800 golf courses in Texas.

You can find great places to camp in Texas. Texas offers fun and exciting camping trips that the whole family can enjoy. There are a lot of parks, RV sites and cabins that will accommodate any camping style.  During your trip you can enjoy hiking, bird watching, or just experience the outdoors. One of Texas’s greatest parks is the Big Bend National Park with 800,000 acres of mountains and dessert it is a wilderness paradise.  More than 130 parks highlight the expansive beauty of the Panhandle, heart of Texas cowboy country.

There's so much of West Texas to admire that visitors should plan on an extended visit. The Hill Country covers some of the most diverse and beautiful country in Texas, stretching roughly from Uvalde in the west to I-35 in the east.  Also, on East Texas you will find Piney Woods. When it Texas, this is a great place to visit.

You can also enjoy Texas’s many working ranches complete with cattle, chuckwagons and cowpokes. These ranches offer you a chance to test your cowboy skills and give you a taste of authentic Texas tradition. The ranches are located all over Texas. At the ranches you can ride a wildflower-strewn path in the Texas Hill Country, plan a lakeside adventure or opt for the stark desert beauty of West Texas.

Wild rides are another one of Texas’s favorites. In Texas you can enjoy from roller coasters to surfboards to horses to rafts. There are two Six Flags Theme Parks in Texas. All year long, all over the state, you’ll find the wildest rides Texas has to offer.
If you love horses Texas is the right place for you. Anywhere in Texas  you can just saddle and enjoy a horse ride. Riding horses is a part of Texas history.  Check with almost any Texan town you're visiting to see where you can sit atop a ride.

Texas water parks are some of the best in the US. One of the most famous one; Schlitterbahn located in New Braunfels is 65 acres of pure wet and wild fun. This park surrounded by the lush greenery of the Texas Hill Country and here you will find water rides, giant hot tubs, slides rapids and even a children's playground. Schlitterbahn has also opened Texas’s newest water park on tropical South Padre Island.

Another great park is located in Arlington. The popular Hurricane Harbor is just a short drive away from Six Flags over Texas.

Texas Events & Festivals

All around the Texas Gulf Coast you will find events and festivals all year long. You can find lively festivals, fiestas, fishing tournaments, spicy chili cook offs, jalapeno eating contests, music shows, concerts, shows, exhibits, carnivals and much more. Texas has activities for everyone no matter what they like.

A Texas must see is the Texas rodeo.  At the rodeo you can find the cowboys roping, riding a whole lot of action. Some of the most popular rodeo shows are in Fort Worth, San Antonio and Houston.

All over Texas you will enjoy the Western flare and every January and February you can enjoy George Washington's birthday. This birthday is celebrated with a lavish, multi-cultural festival. The festival began in 1898and it has grown to a month-long event with a parade, balls, pageants, concerts and street parties.

On the Texas border, Brownsville, Charro Days are celebrated. Charro Days is a fiesta that brings two nations together in late February.

Texas Cuisine

You can find great food in Texas.  With many great restaurants that range from Cajun, to German and Mexican, you can be assured that Texas is a great place for fine dining. You can also find the world famous Tex-Mex cuisine. Texas is also famous for its great barbecue restaurants and Chili.

A staple of Texas’ss cuisine is the Barbecue. Barbecue was actually invented in Texas.  The story of barbecue begins in the back rooms of Central Texas’s meat markets. Today, the barbecue (or BBQ) has left Texas to become popular all over the world.  Texas is proud to have hundreds of BBQ restaurants. You can try them and find out which one is your favorite. Just remember to add another Texas favorite; Chili! You can say that Chili is really a Texas tradition.

Tex-Mex food brings together the best of two worlds: the rich Mexican flavors and the Texas flair. The real Tex-Mex food is only found in Texas.  You can get great Tex-Mex all over restaurants in Texas, but the closer you get to the south, the better it gets.

In Texas you can get a great steak almost everywhere. Texas steak houses are considered some of the best in the US. Also, chicken-fried steak is considered the “unofficial state dish of Texas”.  Every day in Texas over 800,000 chicken-fried steaks are served.

Another very popular type of food in Texas is Down Home. This type of cuisine is a mix between American, cowboy recipes, German dishes and normal food.  Once in Texas you got to try it.

All over Texas you will find great stores and shopping malls. In addition to Texas shopping centers, stores and abundant outlet malls, you'll also find great small shopping places back roads and smaller communities of Texas.
